I was under the impression that my 5800 xpressmusic did not have 3g. My mobile network is just about to launch 3g services, and the 3g symbol appeared under the reception bar this morning. It has disappeared now, but it was definitely there this morning. I'm just wondering if there is some way I can find out if my phone has 3g capabilities or not. I don't know how to check.

Thanks.

It may depend on which regional version of the phone you have, and what 3G frequencies your carrier uses.

The US/NAM 5800 XM works with AT&T on the 850/1900 bands supporting UMTS/HSDPA and speeds up to 3.6 Mb/sec (which is quite fast, as many AT&T "3G" phones only support half that speed).

Note that this same phone on T-Mobile in the US would not support 3G, since T-mo uses different frequencies than AT&T.

And the Europe versions have different frequencies as well.

So, yes, the 5800 supports 3G/3.5G, under the right conditions.

i can comfirm 5800 has 3G, unless you have a china set, which does not have 3G/WIfi.

to comfirm, just go to settings->phone->Connectivity->Network->Network Mode.

from the network mode, you can see Dual Mode, UMTS and GSM.

Dual mode means it will automatically switch from UMTS or GSM.

FYI, UMTS is 3G/3.5G while GSM means 2G.
