Sounds like Latin America to me, but not sure. BTW, I also changed my 0577454 code to 0574994 and updated to v50 couple days back, no problems so far.

Oh and you say "LTA BLACK", what does that mean? What does your phones come up as?

Original XM 0577454 = NAM Region US Black - MR

Navigation Edition 0591814 = NAM Region US Sangalo Black NAVI

There is another NAM code I am aware of:
0592207 = NAM Region US Black PR4.0 MR

And then that odd "NA" code:
0574994 = NA BLACK

That's from the data gathered by Navifirm from the Nokia update server.

I assume "LTA" stands for Latin America (south America) as opposed to NAM (North American Model). As far as hardware goes, all RM-428 models should be the same, so the various firmware differences are probably related to language packs, default applications and themes.

I remember that LTA code being used to get the v40 firmware early by a lot of people with NAM phones. LOL! I wonder if that refurb you got was one of those?

Still no update Sad

Nope, not yet. Not for original NAM product codes anway. You could change to the NA (0574994) or LTA (0561618) code and get the update early.

I called Nokia again for more issues and the guy asked me what firmware I have and I told him I have v50. He was like well our latest firmware is v40 and you somehow have a newer version. The guy probably thought I hacked my phone and got the newer firmware.

I've only had my phone a few days now.

Bought it (5800 XpressMusic) from a guy on Craigslist at "a price one cannot refuse".

After doing a great deal of reading and consideration, I decided to figure out how to update to the v50 firmware.

The only guide I found to change the product code without using JAF was here. And it also didn't involve me downloading suspicious rar files Wink

After changing my product code (and restarting the phone) updating to the v50 update was no problem.

So for anyone who isn't afraid of invalidating your warranty or if, like myself, you have no warranty, go for broke.

Of course, it's at your own risk.

Oh, and 'First Post!' for me Smiley

Editted to fix that bad link.

After playing with it a few days, the only noticable difference is that the tilt sensor doesn't seem as responsive now.

And I can't seem to find that microsoft App that was mentioned.

Ok well I am kind of glad to hear that your accelerometer is not functioning like it should. Cause I got this new phone and updated it right away to v50 and thought it was the phone that sucked. You really have to either shake it or turn it pretty hard 180 degrees and then it will rotate. Oh well, it will not be much longer and I will no longer be with AT&T. I am done with all their crappy pricing. Time to switch to Sprint for their everything data plans. And get that HTC EVO 4G.

You know when you boot up and you see the Nokia "hands", you can touch the screen and they go away and it boots normally?

I installed Garmin XT yesterday since the Nokia maps never seemed to work properly for me. GPS worked fine, just the Nokia maps wouldn't update from the PC software.

I have to admit I like the Garmin software better (since it works.)

As for the rotate issue, it's definitely software since it worked perfectly prior to the update.

The only guide I found to change the product code without using JAF was here.
Should have looked in the "How To" forum right here.

Updated to v50 a little while ago and I'm finding more crap I don't like. Kinetic in the icon menus is annoying. I often have to double/triple click on icons to launch them now, because the slightest movement when tapping makes the phone think I want to scroll instead of launch.  Angry

The more they try to make this thing like the iPhone the less I like it. [sigh]  Sad

On the bright side, the browser has improved yet again. Auto full-screen rocks!  Grin

Kinetic in the gallery is nice, but I still tend to use the beta Photo Browser because the gallery shows videos and hangs when I have large videos on the phone. Why do they even bother with videos in the gallery when there is a separate video app? Wish they'd use the gallery just for photos and keep the video browsing in the video app. The gallery gets "stuck" trying to display icons for large high quality videos (it won't display any icons after those, and gets very slow and unresponsive). A work-around I'm trying is to hide the file after the video app finds it.

Since v50 has Maps 3.03 built-in, and I had trouble with Maps 3.04 & Joiku, I'm gonna stick with the built-in Maps 3.03 app for now. Maps 3.04 didn't seem to perform any better, and with 3.03 built-in I get more free space on C: to use.  Cool

Still no "official" release yet for NAM, but PC 0574994 seems to work fine.

That's my "quicky" review for now...

Aloha, Tim
