Hi ..can anyone help me with a few questions..I currently have a Nokia N75 and have had it for years.  My boys have accidently broken it.  I have service with Att as well.  I am looking into getting the Nokia 5800 Nav Edition.  Can I transfer my sim card into the 5800?  Do I need to change my att plan? Do I need a data plan like the I phone and is this phone comparable to the Iphone..I really like Nokia.  Thanks for any help.

First of all, look for the normal 5800. Unless the 'Nav' edition is cheaper. But all 5800's have free navigation for life now.

Second, I am using the 5800 on the cheaper data plan right now. Technically it is probably supposed to be on the more expensive one, but I am getting away with it. Just do not tell AT&T what phone you have if you are already paying for the cheaper data.

Third, yes you can just transfer your card over and it will work right away.

Any other questions, go ahead and ask.

As jtmoney said, Nokia has free worldwide navigation on all 5800's (just update to Maps 3.03), so get whichever is cheaper (XpressMusic or Navigation).

The only real advantage of the Nav version is that it includes a car charger and a mount kit. Right now the Nav is cheaper on amazon.com, so it's the one to get.

The hardware is identicle between the Nav & XM, so it's only a cosmetic difference (Nav is matt black with a chrome bezel, XM is gloss black with a silver stripe on the side).

You can just pop your AT&T SIM into a 5800 and the phone will set itself up.

The 5800 is not classified by AT&T as a smart phone, so you will not be required to purchase a data or messaging plan and since the 5800 has WiFi you may not even need one. However, if you want a data plan you can use the cheaper plan (I have "umlimited" data for $10/month on our family plan).

Thank you so much. It just arrived today and yes, I ordered it from Amazon. Any advice on what I should do to get it loaded properly or any quick tips would be great..as I said before, I previously had the N75.  I had that phone for a long time.  This is my first touch phone..I was surprised at how much thinner it was than the I phone..I love Nokia.  Thanks again

How much thinner what is that the Iphone? The 5800 is not even close to being thinner if that is what you were talking about. But I do love how the 5800 fits in your hand. It just seems right.

Do not listen to me much about what to put on there to get going, lol. I am sending mine back to Nokia for the second time tomorrow. Hopefully they fix everything wrong with it or just replace the stupid thing. I would love to have this phone working great like everyone else seems to have.

Lol..well lets hope that doesn't happen to me! Thinner wasn't the right word..what I meant was that it is not as wide as the I phone..So far I like it better. Both, My mom and sister have an I phone..I still find myself trying to slide pages..maybe I have not found out how to do it correctly yet.  My 8 yr old has found the games and music already. LOL..Leave it to my kids to figure out the phone before I do.

Open the dial pad and dial *#0000# to check your firmware version. It's likely v31.2.101, so you can upgrade to the new v40.2.005 firmware using the Nokia PC Suite or Ovi Suite software updater (NSU).

You can also try and update right from the phone using FOTA (Flash Over The Air) from the Options menu at the screen you reach by dialing *#0000# (although when I checked it found no updates, while NSU did).

The new firmware will allow you to have both Contacts and Shortcuts on the home screen at the same time (along with email notifications), and the new contacts bar can hold more than 4 since it can scroll left or right (with kinetic scrolling).

I posted a thread on the new firmware here [click].

Ok that makes more sense. Yes the width of the phone is narrower than most phones out there. I wondered at first how I would like it compared to my Samsung Eternity. I loved the feel of the Eternity. But once I got this phone I was very pleased.

I'm hoping when I send it in to Nokia, they can update me to v40 even though it is not available yet. I wouldn't doubt it being available soon though being that it is out for the Nav edition already.

Thank you for the update advice..it was the first one that you stated.

Silly question? My son read that their are free music downloads, so I went to the Ovi music store to find what he wanted.  It asked me what country I needed but it did not show Usa..what did I do wrong.. And on the page that showed the music, I only saw music that needed to be paid for..Help...I am lost..lol...I am not very good at technology..can you tell..ask me to be a mom and bake something..that I can do!!

The XpressMusic version of the phone was supposed to have a feature called "Comes With Music" which gave owners free music downloads for a year (I think). But Nokia does not have a Music store in the US, so the US XpressMusic models came with a $50 coupon for Amazon video downloads instead.

Regardless, it was a limited time promo that is no longer valid.

You know if it really gets too hot, you might have gotten a faulty battery. You should have contacted Nokia about it first. Cause mine gets warm, but does not get too hot.

I purchaed an I Phone today..I could not handle the ringing in my ears as well.  I absolutely love the new phone.  Thanks for all your help. And it was $ 150.00 less than the 5800.

I have no idea what you are talking about when referring to ringing in your ears? That just makes no sense. And getting hot sounds like you got a defective unit, or loaded some software that was acting up. I have no such problems with my 5800. It has far better reception and call quality than my nephew's iPhone.

And $150 less, LOL! Except for the extra $15/month x 2 years for data, which = $360, which is more than the entire price for the 5800. And since you don't even require data for the 5800 (like you do for the iPhone), you could have saved $720 over 2 years using WiFi.

But, good luck with your new iPod, er, I mean phone.
