By changing your phone to GSM only makes it only work on edge? The UMTS gives the 3G?

Yes it does. GSM is for EDGE and UMTS is for 3G or 3.5G if your area supports it.

It may give better battery life, but it did not help out with my issues with this phone. It still hangs up on people all the time. I am probably going to just have to send it to Nokia before my year of warranty ends. I want it to get fixed cause I loved the phone and cant wait for the new firmware to hit the US. As of now I am using the Palm Treo Pro. It is actually a very nice phone. Very good call quality.
