The new 5800 v40.0.005 firmware supports the enhanced home screen used on the 5530 (scrolling contacts list with up to 20 entries), as well as kinetic scrolling and auto-switching from T9 to QWERTY when you rotate the phone from portrait to landscape mode.

It's pretty much what 5800 owners have been dreaming of since we first got the phones. Or so I've heard, because, as usual, NAM is not supported by the update servers. According to Navifirm only RM-356 product codes are getting the new update (APAC/Europe).

So I guess we wait, as usual...  Angry

And yes, I already thought about trying the altered product code trick. It won't work since NONE of the NAM product codes are supported.

Is it a branded or unlocked phone (and what's your phone's product code)?

It is unlocked. They type is RM-428.  I had updated it before with pc suite.  Now it says it doesn't recognize it.  I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my laptop.  When I updated it before it was with a different laptop.

Nokia PC Suite works for me under XP and 7. Installing it under 7 was the problem. It said it didn't recognize the OS, so I set the installer to run under XP compatibility mode and it worked.

However, since v40 is not out for NAM yet, if you have v21 and your phone is working fine then there is no compelling reason to update.

The latest v31 is only a minor update. They fixed the call log icon bug (finally), but that was a minor problem for most people. The only significant change is that OVI Maps 3.0 was in firmware, which freed up 6MB of memory if you used that (and now that's been updated to 3.1, so it's back in memory again).
